Bangweulu Wetlands The Bangweulu Wetland System is the largest wetland system in Zambia and incorporates Lake Bangweulu, the swamp and the floodplains. Bangweulu is renowned for the African Shoebill Stork (resembling the extinct dodo) and is said to be home to more than 400 species of birds. Huge herds of black lechwe and many other antelope are present as well as a small amount of elephant and buffalo. Being a wetland area, Bangweulu is only really accessible during the dry season (May-December). Camping and mid-market lodges available. |
