Mpulungu
Mpulungu is a great spot to spend a few lazy days soaking up the sun on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. The markets, especially when the boats come in, are lively places full of fresh fish, produce and big African smiles. Ideally, you should rent a boat for a day to explore the lake and islands or take in some scuba diving or snorkelling. Many tropical fish are indigenous to this area of the world and a few fisheries specialise in this market. You can also boat out to the bottom of Kalambo Falls (12th highest falls in the world!) and hike up to the top for some spectacular views. A steam boat leaves every Friday around noon, taking two days to traverse the lake before arriving in Kigoma,Tanzania. Camping, and chalets available in town.
