David Livingstone Memorial Chitambo's village, in the heart of Zambia, on May 1st, 1873 is the place where David Livingstone finally succumbed to the effects of dysentery and malaria. His heart was then buried under a tree, where the simple memorial stands today and his body preserved with salt and transported by his trusted followers 1700 miles back to the coast.
